Graduation Excitement for International Students

Having studied in Turkish universities on a Türkiye Scholarship, international students from all around the world returned to their homelands as alumni following the 12th International Students Graduation Ceremony held by YTB.

Having studied in Turkish universities on a Türkiye Scholarship provided by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), international students from all around the world tossed their graduation caps in the air at the 12th International Students’ Graduation Ceremony held at Ankara Music and Fine Arts University. 1,848 international students from 133 countries graduated this year before returning to their homelands. 

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, delivered a speech as part of the ceremony. Mr. Ersoy noted that 42,000 people lodged an application for Türkiye Scholarships in the first year while the number has now risen to over 117,000. As for the number of applications lodged in 2023, Mr. Ersoy said: "117, 367 students from 162 countries lodge an application for Türkiye Scholarships in 2023 and this is testament to how the efforts are on the right track”.

Mr. Ersoy also pointed out how the participation of young people from all around the world including Azerbaijan, Bosnia Herzegovina, Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria, and U.S. in the scholarship scheme is the best case in point for how Türkiye Scholarships have grown into a global success. 
Referring to 1,848 international students on Türkiye Scholarships from 133 countries graduating this year, Mr. Ersoy added: “Please remember that you have a long way to go.  Perhaps some of you will continue to pursue education while some others may go back and convey their know-how and experience to people in their homelands after studying in a high-quality school. I hope that you will do the best and most fruitful deeds for your nations and humankind when you return to your homelands. While we seem to be parting ways, we have an everlasting friendship to enjoy together.”
 
Keep Going to Achieve the Goal of a Habitable World 

Speaking of the efforts made to achieve the goal of a habitable world, Mr. Ersoy noted: “You do not necessarily have to be in the same country to do so. You will be in our thoughts even if you are far away in Tanzania, Kenya, Kosovo, Palestine, or Venezuela. Türkiye Scholarships Alumni will be part of a movement of kindness that adopts the principles of making life beautiful, sharing with others, and practicing tolerance all over the world”.  

Scholarships to Start Yielding Concrete Outputs Soon 

In his address, Mr. Abdullah Eren, the President of YTB, remarked that Türkiye Scholarships are now a global brand out of Türkiye under the auspices of YTB, and that they have helped many international students pursue higher education in Türkiye. Mr. Eren noted that the scholarships are about to start yielding concrete outputs soon: "Relying on Türkiye Scholarships, the Republic of Türkiye has shifted the paradigm in its foreign policy over the past two decades to new heights in education diplomacy. YTB continues to take actions to help Türkiye alumni and international students on Türkiye Scholarships offer more to Türkiye”.

We Intend to Establish Export Cooperation with International Students

Mr. Eren said he is confident that the international students who return to their homeland will attach priority to Türkiye when it comes to cooperation in trade, tourism, and culture: “We offer scholarships with a view to making inroads and growing together. We are set to raise the number of the alumni associations to 50 in 5 years at various locations of the world. We intend to establish cooperation in export with international students, joining forces with export associations and the Ministry of Trade in particular. 

Mr. Eren stressed that Türkiye is home to a large family of Türkiye alumni who studied in Türkiye: “There is going to be Turkish alumni and domestic companies with a role in the private and public sectors in almost every country on the Earth and they will be doing business in Türkiye and have something to offer for us. That is why we are quite hopeful about you”.

The alumni were presented with awards at the event for their graduation. The 12th International Students Graduation Ceremony culminated in a cap-tossing ceremony and a family photo shoot.
