YTB Revealed the History of Our Compatriots in Croatia
Çarşamba, Eylül 7, 2022The book "Turks in Croatia", prepared with the support of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), which draws attention to the historical process of the Turkish community settled in Croatia during the Ottoman Empire until today, met with the readers.
The Turkish community in Croatia was recorded as 367 people in the last official census conducted in 2011. The Croatian Constitution recognizes the Turkish community as an official minority. In this context, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) supported the preparation of an academic work based on historical documents from the past, information in the sources and interviews with the cognates living in the country today. The book "Turks in Croatia", written by Croatian academics Filip Şkilyan and Vlatka Dugaçki within the Center for Migration and Ethnic Studies in Croatia, reveals the conditions of the Turks who settled in the country during the Ottoman Empire.
Field research, interviews and content from archival sources were used in the preparation of the book. The book, which was prepared in Croatian and completed in 2021, was translated into Turkish by translator Kayhan Gül in the first half of 2022. 300 copies of the book "Turks in Croatia" were printed and presented to the readers.
