Commemoration Events
Various programs are organized by our Presidency in order to celebrate common important days such as Nowruz, which our country shares with the Sibling Communities, and to commemorate the forced migration and similar tragic events (such as the Crimean Exile, Meskhetian Exile, Bulgarian Forced Migration) that the Sibling Communities have been exposed to in history.
Meskhetian Exile 75th Anniversary Commemoration Program.
Meskhetian Turks who lived on the other side of our border until 1944 were separated from their homeland in one night and exiled to different countries of Central Asia. Various events were organized by our Presidency in 2019 in order not to forget and to share the suffering of our cognates. Oral history studies were conducted, documentaries were filmed, books were published and commemoration programs were organized in various regions of our country in order to record the unfair treatment of Crimean Tatars and Bulgarian Turks in history. On 10 December 2019, a commemoration program was held at the Presidential Complex with the participation of President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ministers, Members of Parliament, representatives of foreign countries, academicians, Meskhetian Turks coming from different cities of Türkiye and 3 thousand people in total.
Within the framework of the Commemoration Program; the performance of folk songs of Meskhetian Turks by the Ankara Turkish World Music Community, protocol speeches, documentary screening and the presentation of gifts to the President by the witnesses of the exile were held. In addition, an exhibition was organized with the winning works of the painting competition organized for the 75th year of the Meskhetian Exile, paintings drawn by Ahiska painter Canpolat Qahramanov and a selection of archive photographs of Meskhetian Turks.
1944 Crimean Tatar Exile Commemoration Program
In the program, the suffering witnessed during the exile was highlighted and it was emphasized that the sensitivity to protect the rights and interests of Crimean Tatars under all circumstances will continue. In the program, a documentary about the exile, filmed with the contribution of our Presidency, was screened and the views of the generation that witnessed the exile and the new generation of Crimean Tatar youth were shared.
Bulgaria Forced Migration 30th Anniversary Commemoration Program
Our Presidency supports many commemoration programs and events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 1989 forced migration from Bulgaria. In this context, the first symposium and commemoration program on "30th Anniversary of Forced Migration from Bulgaria" was held in Kocaeli on 28-29 September 2019 in cooperation with Kocaeli Balkan Turks Culture and Solidarity Association and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. With the support and cooperation of our Presidency, the second commemoration program on forced migration was held on 8 October 2019 at Bursa, Uludağ University with the Federation of Balkan Turks Immigrant and Refugee Associations. Within the scope of the commemoration program, a photo exhibition was organized and sessions on forced migration were held.
